Overview of Cleveland Firefighters’ Memorial
The Cleveland Firefighters’ Memorial is situated between the Great Lakes Science Center and Cleveland Browns Stadium. It is located in Cleveland, OH 44114, USA and it was made to honor those Cleveland firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice. The goal of building the firefighters’ memorial sculpture is to keep the memory of these brave men alive as well as the sacrifice they made, and in doing so, their present and future firefighters will be honored. The memorial was dedicated in 2007, on June 15th.
The original artist who designed and began fabricating the sculpture was Luis Jimenez, a nationally known sculptor. He worked on the sculpture until his untimely death which occurred while working on another sculpture. After his death, Rob Hartshorn became the art director on the project and himself along with Ron Dewey, a sculptor, and Ralph Brussee, a painter, completed the memorial.
In Northeast Ohio, the Cleveland firefighters memorial is a sculpture that depicts two firefighters standing and bravely facing a roaring inferno. It is a colorful piece made of fiberglass that is visible from the shoreway, in a central location between the Great lake’s science center, the Rock n’ Roll hall of Fame and Brown’s stadium. The seemingly hapless men stand firm against all odds, even in the face of the imposing tendrils of fire that curls over and above them, blasting water from the hose. The names of all the men and women who paid the ultimate price protecting the Cleveland communities are engraved on the large granite base of the memorial.
